What is the Simple Present?

The Simple Present is used to talk about:

  • daily routines

  • habits

  • general facts

Examples:

  • I work every day.

  • She lives in Omaha.


Affirmative Sentences

Structure:
Subject + base verb

Examples:

  • I work.

  • You study.

  • We live here.


Third Person Singular (He / She / It)

When the subject is he, she, or it, we add –s or –es to the verb.

Examples:

  • He works.

  • She studies.

  • It runs.

Common endings:

  • work → works

  • go → goes

  • study → studies


Simple Present with To Be vs. Other Verbs

  • I am a student. (to be)

  • I study English. (action verb)


Time Expressions (Basic)
