1. What are Prepositions of Place?

Prepositions of place are words that tell us where something or someone is.
They help students describe location in English.


2. Common Prepositions of Place (Basic)

  • in → inside something

    • The book is in the bag.

  • on → on a surface

    • The pen is on the table.

  • under → below something

    • The cat is under the chair.

  • next to / beside → beside or near

    • The chair is next to the table.


3. Using Prepositions in Simple Sentences

  • The ball is in the box.

  • The cup is on the table.

  • The shoes are under the bed.

  • The lamp is next to the sofa.


4. Practice Activities

  • Look at pictures and describe where objects are using in, on, under, next to

  • Place objects in the classroom and ask students:

    • Where is the book? → It is on the desk.

  • Complete sentences with the correct preposition


5. Common Errors (Basic)

  • The book is on the bag. (when it is inside)

  • The book is in the bag.
