1. What are Singular and Plural Nouns?

  • Singular nouns = one person, thing, or animal

  • Plural nouns = more than one person, thing, or animal

Example:

  • book → singular

  • books → plural


2. Forming Regular Plurals

Most nouns form the plural by adding –s:

Rules:

  • If a noun ends in s, x, z, ch, sh, add –es:

    • bus → buses

    • box → boxes

  • If a noun ends in y and is preceded by a consonant, change y → ies:

    • baby → babies

    • city → cities

Some nouns do not follow the regular rules:
